Happy New Year! We are all so glad to be done with 2020 and hopeful for what lies ahead in 2021. But today, I want to take you back. Way back. All the way to the 1990s with some super-relatable (and funny) 90s memes. If you’re reading this post, you probably at least lived through the 90s, even if it wasn’t the decade that speaks to you when you think about your past and/or childhood.
Born in the late 80s, the 1990s were my childhood and these 90s memes are spot on, in my opinion. Kids who grew up in the 90s had just enough technology, but not so much that we were sucked into staring at a screen all day. That only happened on friday nights when TGIF came on and we got to watch all our favorites including Saved By The Bell and Boy Meets World. The rest of the time was spent dancing to the new Spice Girls CD or playing outside making up our own games because the games of the future on our smartphones didn’t yet exist.
Watching kids today (mine included), I’m so glad I grew up in an era where the internet didn’t rule our existence and screen addiction only occurred for a few hours on Saturday mornings while our favorite cartoons were on. Kids today will never understand the struggle of dial-up internet, having to rewind a movie, or only being able to watch their favorite shows at certain times and days of the week.
*True Story*: I told my 5 year old the other day that we didn’t have Netflix when I was a kid and he responded with, “…so you just had to watch Youtube?”
If you lived through the 90s at all, these 90s memes will take you back:
