This month I’m so excited to be a part of the August Pinterest Challenge! Each month Cindy from County Road 407 and several blogger friends recreate their own version of a photo Cindy has found on Pinterest and then do a blog hop “tour.” This is my first Pinterest Challenge & I’m thrilled. A big thanks to Cindy for including me this month 🙂 If you’re visiting from Our Southern Home, welcome! I’m so happy to have you.
Our inspiration this month is a pretty coffee table vignette put together by Yvonne from StoneGable:
I don’t often do coffee table displays as I have little kids and anything within their reach gets destroyed and/or used for a game, fort, baseball, hit brother with the vase? A multitude of different scenarios are possible. Luckily, my kids are back at school now so I had plenty of time to create this fun display and take photos before disaster happened, and I had so. much. fun. with it!
I decided to use my farmhouse coffee table for this Challenge, and my piano room for the backdrop. All the rooms in my house seem to flow nicely with the others, but each room is a little different with a slightly unique style. My piano room is the room with the most “farmhouse” look and feel. And for this Pinterest Challenge, I was really feeling like a farmhouse theme was the way I wanted to go. Although I’ve shown bits and pieces of my piano room on Instagram, I’ve never revealed the entire thing. Today was the perfect time to do that.
I bought a few new pieces of décor for this display and also used some things I already had. The first new piece is this farmhouse-style vase. I unexpectedly spotted it at Walmart while I was there the other day and knew it would be perfect for this coffee table vignette. I also found this gray washed tray, (perfect for the foundation of my display) in the home décor section.
This room can be so dark as it’s right behind my front porch & faces southwest, so I made sure to take photos at just the right time so there was lots of natural light radiating in.
This orb (similar) is similar to the one Yvonne used in her vignette. I found it at Big Lots along with that cute little ‘HELLO’ sign. I’m always impressed with the home décor available at Big Lots–it’s so unexpected! The things I already had were the silver candlestick which came from a thrift store, and the antique electrician’s books given to Huz (he’s an electrician) by his mother.
The bright & happy sunflowers scream “August!”and are perfect for an end-of-summer vignette. Buffalo check goes with (almost) everything and can be used during any season. The throw pillows came from both Amazon and Burlington and I got the curtains from Etsy, my favorite place to buy homemade items.
To add interest, I displayed three pinecones on a cake stand. Not only is it unexpected, I think the cake stand reveals an elegance, and the pinecones foreshadow the seasons to come. Late august is the perfect time to display transitional décor.
This little nook-of-a room sits just off my main entryway. It’s small, but really cute and cozy. It’s my favorite place to curl up and read a novel or take a nap. I got the French-inspired lamp at TJ Maxx, and the super-inexpensive, yet comfortable sectional from Big Lots; can you believe it?
My French wall clock was purchased at Michaels several years ago and I’ve used it in so many different spaces. I got the rustic shutters on Amazon and then attached these fun metal flowers that I picked up in the clearance section at Hobby Lobby. I love DIY wall décor!
I have some of my favorite black & white family photos displayed on my piano which I often use as a mantel since I don’t have a fireplace. The piano is one of my absolute favorite pieces I own. It was built in 1907, has been completely refinished, and I got it for free. Above it, rustic wall décor spells out ‘LOVE’ with barbed wire. It’s handmade and I picked it up on Poshmark for $7.
The blue farmhouse chairs came from Amazon. I ordered white but they sent blue. Luckily I got to keep the blue and they sent more white which I use in my dining room.
Well, this is my coffee table vignette & piano room reveal. Thanks for Stopping by! Next up on the tour is Amber from Follow The Yellow Brick Home–I know you’ll love her pretty vignette.

You created a beautiful vignette for your piano room. I love antiques and swooned over your piano. What a treasure and it’s amazing that you got it for free. I’m in the market for a sectional sofa and am considering one from Big Lots. I was glad to read that you like yours.
Katie says
Thanks, Paula! The piano was a great find–I also LOVE antiques. And yes, check Big Lots for sure!

Katie, I’m so glad to meet you through the Pinterest Challenge! Your vignette is lovely, and definitely looks farmhouse! Big Lots items are indeed surprising and lovely. I purchased a couple items for our patriotic challenge in July!
I’m off to visit more of your blog! We’d love to have you link up at Tuesday Turn About today and each week, at 5pm CST!

That’s so nice of you, Julie–thanks! I’ll have to find you on Instagram and see what this Tuesday Turn About is all “about.” It’s been a pleasure meeting you and the other ladies via this challenge.

Hi Katie! I love that you used your piano room as the backdrop! I play the piano, so I get excited when I find others who enjoy owning one. Your vignette is so sweet and cheerful with the addition of sunflowers. They make a great accent as we transition into fall. You are quite the expert at finding great decor deals! Happy to be hopping with you!
Katie says
It’s so nice to meet you, Crissy. Thanks for your kind words. I had so much fun with this challenge and getting to see all the other ladies’ vignettes.
Lora Bloomquist says
Welcome to the hop, Katie! So glad you were able to have fun styling, since the kiddos are in school! Oh, I remember those days. We just brought the baby to college 6 hours away; lots more decorating time these days! I’ve got an upright piano like yours that I love decorating with, too; enjoy your cozy room!
Katie says
Hi, Lora, I can’t imagine bringing my baby to college! That must be so hard, but also, more free time 🙂 I enjoyed this challenge with you–looking forward to the next!
Barbara Chapman says
Your piano room is lovely in this light, Katie! I love how you’ve put your table decor elements together here!!
I remember those days when it was hard to leave anything out on tables; keep reminding the kids that this is Mom’s and not to play with it. They will get it soon and leave it alone. It’s work but I had my kids going with me to thriftshops and antique stores at an early age. They are good decorators themselves now with their own styles! Yours will inherit that from you, too.
Happy to be with you on today’s Pinterest Challenge,
Hugs,
Barb 🙂
Katie says
Yes, Barbara, they know mom likes “old stuff” and they often help me chalk paint furniture. I actually have lots of antiques including a 110 year old grandfather clock that they know not to touch. It’ll get easier as they get older. Have a great weekend!
Christy @ Our Southern Home says
So very pretty! Sunflowers are just such a happy flower!
Katie says
Thanks, Christy. They’re very cheerful!
