Are you a last minute gift buyer? As much as I like to be on top of things, the holiday season is a demanding time. When you’ve got kids, it’s even crazier. There’s really nothing wrong with getting gifts last-minute, except for the fact that it can be stressful when you’re in a time-crunch and you only have a few days. Do you head to the brick and mortar stores with the millions of other last-minute shoppers trying to check off everyone on their list? Do you go online knowing that shipping during the holidays is risky business and there’s no way to know for sure if your gift will arrive in time for Christmas?
Huz has a December birthday. It’s always right after Thanksgiving and I’m always behind. This year, I ordered him something online (from QVC to be exact), five days before his birthday and paid a ridiculous amount of money for a speedy delivery and guess what? His present still didn’t arrive until 3 days after his birthday. I was so disappointed.
So what do you do when you have last minute gifts you need to get and a limited amount of time to purchase those gifts? Since I am a home décor lover (is it obvious?), today I’m going to focus on last-minute gifts for fellow home decorators. I know more people who are into home décor and decorating than pretty much any other hobby/interest. So, I thought this to be the perfect person to focus on right before Christmas. Home décor gifts are versatile and it’s pretty hard to mess them up.
One place I recommend for last-minute shopping is Amazon. Let’s be real, they are kind of the gold standard for quick shipping/delivery. I’ve never purchased from Amazon and had my order not arrive on time. If you’re going to order a last-minute gift online, do it on Amazon.
Below, I list some of my favorite last-minute gift ideas for home decorators.
Journal
As a decorator, I am always writing things down. I make lists, draw pictures, jot down any and all ideas running through my brain at any given time. A journal is a classic, timeless gift. It is rumored that Duchess Meghan Markle even gifted her former soon-to-be sister-in-law, Princess Kate, with a journal for Kate’s birthday last year. This journal from Amazon is guaranteed to be delivered by Christmas.
Rustic Farmhouse Letter Board
Okay, letterboards are crazy popular right now. Who doesn’t want an in-your-face quote or saying that matches what you’re thinking and is also a solid farmhouse décor statement piece? I don’t have a letterboard, personally, but I am thinking about getting one. I’ve seen them all over Instagram and Pinterest. If your recipient is into farmhouse décor, chances are, they’ve seen and lusted after these simple, yet fun and “wordy” pieces of décor.
Home Decorating Book
Books are one of my favorite gifts to receive because they’re still gratifying long after the wrapping paper has been tossed (or more preferably, recycled) and picked up by the garbage man the week after Christmas. What’s more appropriate for a home decorator than a home decorating book? I could read and (mostly) flip through pages of pictures of a home décor book all day, every day. I’m always inspired by other decorators’ ideas and finding inspiration for my own ideas in home décor books. Not into Farmhouse Décor or the Fixer-Upper Style? HERE’S another one of my favorites.
DIY Tool Set
Looking for the perfect gift for a DIYer? Huz is pretty handy and has a huge tool chest full of anything anyone could ever need. But as a decorator and serial DIYer, I like to have my own tools and supplies so I don’t have to go digging through his to find what I need. A small cutesy DIY tool kit is the perfect gift for the DIY-loving home decorator. And it will arrive by Christmas.
Magazine Subscription
Okay, so the first issue won’t arrive by Christmas, but in my opionion, receiving your first issue of a new home decorating magazing weeks after Christmas is long over is even more exiting. I love, love, love magazines. I’ve got piles and piles of them lying around my house because they’re always entertaining and spark new ideas in my ever-running brain. A subscription of say, Country Living, Elle Décor, or House Beautiful, is the perfect last-minute gift for the home decorator. And also, it’s inexpensive–you can get a year’s magazine subscription for around $10.
Bathtub Caddy
So, this one is not home-décor-loving specific. You may want to make sure your gift recipient actually has a tub and in fact, enjoys soaking in it. However, I think a bathtub caddy, like a journal, is classic and the perfect self-care gift for the home decorator or anyone on your list. There are few things I enjoy more after a long day of DIY projects than a hot soak in the bubble bath. A caddy can hold a book, candle, glass of wine…all the necessities for a self-care evening.
Gift Basket
Gift baskets can be generic, yes. But a gift basket is a thoughtful gift that shows that even though you may be short on time, you are still thinking of that person. Plus, gift baskets can be seriously pretty. You can even customize your gift basket online at ‘Design It Yourself Gift Baskets.‘ Or, if you’re up for it, create your own–it’s really not hard at all. Check out my tutorial: How To Make A Gift Basket.
Good Luck on your last-minute shopping! I’m right there with ya.
