Victorian-Inspired Dining Room

Today I’m going to share my dining room with you all. This is my ”Victorian-inspired dining room”. It was inspired by some of my favorite things. It’s a little ‘Alice in Wonderland-meets-Rustic Farmhouse.’ I love the Victorian look and I also like the rustic, farmhouse look. This room is definitely a little bit of both. I would call my style “Rustic-Glam.” I am all about rough, unfinished wood, as long as you add a crystal chandelier and some floral textiles. 😉

I love every piece of this room. Most items are secondhand finds. I’m kind of a BOSS at finding cool vintage or vintage-inspired items for cheap. Most things in my house have come from craigslist, yard sales, thrift stores, or online from secondhand shops.

The house we bought in 2017 is a newer, 2 story, cookie cutter-like house. It’s definitely not my dream home, although I can’t complain. It’s got new everything. Including tile throughout, granite countertops, a luxurious master-bath with huge separate soaking tub, plus a nicely landscaped backyard for my kids to enjoy. It’s just not my 100-year-old Victorian Farmhouse. But that is still to come–I haven’t given up on my dream. However, our house now is so great for our family, I really couldn’t ask for more at the moment.

So what do you do when you have a house that will never be your Dream Home but you still want to love it? You decorate it in your favorite styles to make it your “for now home.” This is a concept I have just started working on the last year and a half. I always felt like no place I lived was worthy of decoration, as it was never my style or my permanent residence. Big mistake! Bloom where you’re planted, right? If you’re in a place that you don’t love, make it loveable. Make it your home, even if it’s just temporary. And you don’t have to spend a fortune to create a space you want to spend time in. Check out my six part series detailing exactly where I find my coolest decor, starting with THIS post. In the meantime, here is my Victorian-inspired dining room:

Victorian-Inspired Dining Room
This is currently my favorite room in my house. It’s also the only room that’s pretty much “done.” I really wanted it to be both feminine & bold.

These Floral Chairs Were a Craigslist Find And I Never Intended For Them To Live In The Dining Room, It Just Kind Of Happened. Someone Stashed Them In There When We Were Moving In And Once I saw How Beautiful They Looked Alongside That Duck-Egg Blue Victorian Dresser, I Knew They Weren’t Going Anywhere.

I absolutely love this farmhouse table and had to have it when I saw it. I refinished the top and it has tons character. I also love that it hasn’t been painted and it’s got a little bit of a rustic, rough look. These distressed farmhouse-industrial chairs came from amazon. I also have a set in blue. Some people are afraid to mix and match different decor styles but you’d be surprised at what looks good together. Don’t be afraid to try new things that you wouldn’t have naturally imagined together.

So Much Character.

This Art Nouveau candelabra came from an antique market in upstate New York. I bought it online, on one of the many apps I use to buy and sell. It’s absolutely my style.

If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen my 1907 refinished piano that I got for free. You can also find it in my Coffee Table Vignette post. The owners of that beauty were moving across the country and also wanted to get rid of this gorgeous hutch from the 1930s. I love the bubble glass and can’t wait to fill it with more cake plates and antique tea cups.

I picked up this wreath (similar) at Target. It’s part of the Hearth & Hand line from Chip & Joanna Gaines. It gives a fresh feel any time of year, but looks especially good during the holidays.

Fun fact: I am obsessed with brackets and corbels. I would use them in every room. In fact, I just might. I found these Victorian-style brackets (similar) at Hobby Lobby.

Well, that’s it for now. I hope you enjoyed checking out my Victorian-inspired dining room. Do you have a favorite decorating style? I have so many.
