Welcome to Part 2 of my Where & How I Find My Coolest Décor Series. If you missed Part 1, find it HERE. This is a 6 part series detailing the exact places I find my coolest décor, and how I get the décor from these 6 places. Pour yourself some coffee and follow along!
Poshmark is an app for buying and selling fashion. Because it’s typically perceived as a clothing and fashion marketplace, one type of products is often overlooked: home décor. While there is no “section” for home décor on the app or search area, many sellers do, in fact, sell home décor items. If you’re not currently using the app, you can use my code: KGALLY to receive a free $10 credit for your first purchase. If you are using the app, read on to learn the way I find home décor items using Poshmark.
Like I stated above, there is no section for home décor or home furnishings on the app, but that doesn’t mean you can’t search for and purchase home décor that sellers are wanting to get rid of. Here are the steps to finding these sometimes secret items:
*UPDATE*
Poshmark now has a ‘Home’ section!! I have updated the rest of this post to reflect the recent changes.
Search
Click on the shop icon at the bottom of the app. From there, go to the section ‘Home’, and click ‘All Home’ Once you’re in the home section, there are several subsections to choose from–some examples are ‘Wall Art,’ ‘Kitchen,’ and ‘Accents.’ Choose one of these and then you can again narrow down your search by clicking on specific categories within each subsection. For instance, when you click on ‘Accents,’ there are many different categories within the ‘Accents’ section–some of which include ‘Accent Pillows,’ ‘Baskets & Bins,’ and ‘Candles & Holders.’ Once you’ve found what you’d like to search for, you can narrow your results further by clicking on the middle icon in the top right corner of the screen. This allows you to filter your results by brand, condition, color, & price.
Keywords
If you’re not sure what you’re looking for and you just want to browse, I recommend using certain keywords. Some keywords I use when I’m browsing are: Home Décor, Wall Décor, Mirrors, Chandelier, Chalk Paint, etc. Or descriptive words such as: Antique, Rustic, Shabby Chic, Farmhouse, Country, Primitive, Victorian, Steampunk, etc. The number of different keyword options is endless.
Negotiate & Buy
Once you’ve found something you know you want, you can make an offer on the item and negotiate with the seller. I’ve found that most sellers are eager to get rid of their stuff and will accept reasonable offers–just don’t lowball. However, there is a shipping charge on top of the purchase price, so be certain to include that into your final purchase price to make sure the item is worth the full amount. Once you’ve purchased, most sellers will drop your item into the mail within a day or two.
I’ve found some of my favorite home décor (sterling silver antique candelabras, rustic wall décor, a vintage mirrored tray, a marquee heart light, and a vintage vanity set!) using this app and I know you will too.
