Welcome to part 3 of my 6 part series: Where & How I Find My Coolest Décor. Last month we covered Poshmark and before that, Craigslist. This month is all about thrift stores.
If you follow my Instagram stories, you have probably seen my (not-so-frequent) posts about my thrift store finds. I shop for home décor at thrift stores on a regular basis. Why? Because they’ve got so much great stuff for so cheap! Thrift stores aren’t just stocked with people’s old junk they couldn’t sell at their yard sale. I have found items that are in perfect condition, as well as things that became perfect with a little chalk paint or elbow grease. Some of the things I’ve found at thrift stores that now decorate my house are:
Mirrors (some I painted, some were perfect as-is).
Candle Holders (I have really cool shabby chic candle holders in 3 different rooms of my house).
Wall Décor (besides mirrors, I’ve found pictures, signs, shutters, and other rustic pieces I’ve put on my walls).
Quilts (just yesterday I was at a thrift store where I found and bought a quilt in great condition hiding under some ugly blankets.)
Picture Frames (I’m in the middle of working on a gallery wall in my living room and I’ve been collecting cool and unique frames from thrift stores. I have so many already.)
Furniture (See THIS post. I’ve gotten coffee tables, dressers, armoires, dining chairs, and many other unique finds at thrift stores. A lot of times the furniture just needs a quick coat of paint or a good scrubbing.)
Coffee Table Books (nearly all the books I have on display in my home are from thrift stores. Most books are under $2 and can work for a coffee table or stacked on a side table or shelf).
Antiques (All items listed above could also be antiques. Some thrift stores even have their own “antiques section.” However, be ready to pay full, antique store prices. Sometimes antiques in thrift stores are even more costly than at antiques shops.)

Tips:
1. Look for special sales or discounts. Many thrift stores do discount days, sales days, and special discounts on certain items marked with different colored stickers/tags.
2. Do a little digging. Some (actually, most) of my best finds have come after I did some searching. Don’t be afraid to dig to the back of the pile of picture frames, the bottom of the box of craft supplies, and in every nook and cranny of the store. As mentioned above ↑, the vintage quilt I found in nearly perfect condition was hiding in the back of the rack, underneath some ugly blankets.
